Mixed-use Development, Zell im Wiesental, Germany

Structural design of a highly irregular concrete commercial & residential building in Zell im Wiesental, Germany. The structure comprises 3 separate buildings resting on a common basement with mixed occupancy classes. Challenges arise from the continuity disruption of primary elements along the height of the building for architectural purposes. Slab openings near wall ends introduced reduced punching resistances while a substantial number of deep beams was utilized for load-bearing purposes. A computationally intense spatial simulation comprising multiple earthquakes modes and numerous finite elements nodes was required to achieve high engineering precision modelling.
